As the years
pass, the AAPK, thanks to your support, is continuing its activities
of solidarity in Southern Kivu with the most impoverished peoples in
the region.
Encouraged by previous successes and the positive
changes resulting from recent projects carried out by GEPR, our
local partner in the domain of rural development, we have decided to
support a new micro-project empowering people to create sustainable
livelihoods. Fifty of the most vulnerable households in and around
the village of Irongo will have access to a new system of rotating
agricultural credit, to technical assistance, and to materials to
support their agricultural and breeding activities. This project
guarantees that these households will have a sustainable way to meet
their dietary needs and at the same time increase their revenue
earning capacity, in order to, amongst other things, improve the
level of schooling received by the children in Irongo.

We
wish to share with you the joy and hope this new initiative is
generating for the local people in Southern Kivu. Following
are some extracts taken from the inauguration speech of the
project. They illustrate how your support is key to bringing
hope for a better future. "If you were to see the faces
of the couples who are benefiting from this project, you
would notice smiles that go beyond those generated by tasting
a preferred but scare food. We have to take all the means
of support offered us, which enable us to take charge of our
own lives, and which empower us to meet our ongoing and urgent
subsistence needs, ourselves. We offer AAPK our feelings of
deepest gratitude." (Speech of the director of GEPR). |
AAPK's
food security micro-projects continue in parallel with our projects
in the health domain. A new project to reinforce the material
infrastructure of the nursing school, ITM Uzima, is in the planning
phase. In addition, we hope to continue our collaboration with our
local partner Fond Social du Kivu to support their projects at the
hospital in Walungu.
All this is only possible with your
extraordinary generosity. We thank you again for your donations
which continue to help relieve suffering, and bring hope to the
inhabitants of this very poor region, Southern Kivu.
