Thanks to
private contributions our NGO benefits from cofinancing
from the Belgian Development Cooperation for the RDC74 action plan, a
development project benefiting the health zone and the hospital of Walungu.
The transfer of these funds to the 'Fonds Social du Kivu' (FSKi), the administrator of the hospital, as well as the
effective coordination and execution of this project is assured
thanks to our partnership with Louvain Développement, who maintains
an
office in Bukavu, South-Kivu.How are the funds allocated? The budget
allocated in 2005 to the RDC74 action plan was €95,546. Three categories accounted for 87% of
total budget.
Investments (36%): In 2005, the purchase of a 4x4 jeep - essential for
driving on the
roads of Kivu - absorbed the major part of this budget category.
Building maintenance is a necessity in this warm, humid
equatorial climate. A hospital extension was added to house the
laboratory and an ophthalmology unit. Peripheral health
centers also benefited, as well as the technical-medical institute
where future health workers are trained.
Operating Costs (35%): These include the purchase of quality
medicines, notably from qualified importers based in Bukavu. Insulin,
antimalaria drugs and antibiotics are needed for the most prevailing
infections. General anesthetics are an important budget item as well.
Personnel Costs (16%): These consist of bonuses attributed
to medical officers, management and administrators. The costs of
our partner in situ are also budgeted.
Finally evaluation costs (audits, short-term local visits) and
administration costs represent 13% of the total.
This is how the generosity of our donors translates into local
action.
Our team is very grateful to all of you!
